The former MP identifies as bisexual and has a colourful romantic life to say the least, including a partner of 35 years, several 'deep friendships' and even an appearance on the celebrity edition of First Dates. The politician, 74, has never married, but has had a long relationship with former Mayor of the West Midlands Andy Street, having previously described him as his 'life partner'.
